Youth Exchanges

An International Youth Exchange, is …

  • Groups of young people aged 13 –25 years, from at least two countries spending between 6 and 21 days together.
  • During this time they participate in a jointly developed programme, with activities designed to encourage learning about each other and gaining some international understanding.
  • The activities can include a number of themes i.e. theatre, sports, music, environment, youth involvement, cultural heritage, community development, media, racism etc.
  • The programme and activities should contribute to the young people’s education process and encourage learning in a wider sense.
  • The project should follow the principles of non-formal learning.
  • An exchange should aim towards creating an arena that provides young people with the opportunity to explore the differences and similarities between their cultures and increase their personal awareness of this.
  • The exchange must have a clear European dimension and should have possibilities for community involvement.
