Where is Area41?
Area 41 is based at 41 Holton Road in the
centre of Barry Town. The building used to be known as the
Old Pear Tree Café which became derelict. The 3 storey
building was converted into a Youth Media Facility in 2002 as part
of a regeneration grant.
After rigorous youth
consultation focusing specifically on building’s design and
operation. Area41 was named following a design competition
for young people judged by young people.
The name has similarities to ‘Area51’ the
secret military air base in U.S. state of Nevada where aliens have
been ‘reported’ to have made contact.
The Area41 Youth Facility opened in 2003, with
3 floors offering a range of innovation services and progressive
activities for young people in which the following organisations
heavily contribute.
