Where is Cowbridge Youth Centre?

Cowbridge Youth Centre is based in the old magistrate court at the rear of Cowbridge Police Station. It is a single storey building, with a wide range of facilities.

 

The members have been responsible for designing the decor of the centre including graffitti projects, mosaics, an Andy Warhol wall etc.

 

The Programme

Wednesday and Thursday 6.30-9.30pm

 

The Centre offers a wide range of activities; issue based work, arts, sports, residential opportunities, citizenship, community projects in addition to providing advice and information.  It also boasts a climbing wall and orienteering course.

 

The Centre is also able to offer the C-Card Scheme for young people.

 

International Youth Work

International Youth Exchanges have played a major part in the centres programmme. Young people have been able to travel throughout Europe via the Youth in Action Programme.

Many have participated in the EVS European Volunteer Programme or Erasmus programme to work or study in another European Country.

Examples of Centre Projects

Passion for Fashion - A fashion show will be held in the near future with clothes made by young people from recycled clothing and materials. Young people from other centres in the Vale have visited Cowbridge Youth Centre to help make the clothes. Funding for Passion for Fashion is from 'Dish Out Dosh' grant.

 

Cowbridge Youth Centre has recently secured European Funding through Youth in Action Programme to host the delivery of a cookery project in partnership with Cowbridge Comprehensive School, and more recently, an Art Project supported by local professional artists.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

The centre has a history of operating a successful bronze, silver and gold award scheme.

Bronze Award for young people aged 14years and above- Wednesday Night

Silver Award for young people aged 15years and above - Wednesday Night

Gold Award for young people aged 16years and above - Monday night 

Most participants having enjoyed the challenge of the expedition section and several  have used the Tall Ships for their residential experience.
