Improvement

Welcome to the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Improvement Plan 2008/9

Produced each year by the Council, the Improvement Plan shows you how and where the Council has improved its services during the past 12 months and how it aims to improve them further in the coming year.

This plan will give you a taste of the priorities the Council has identified to make sure the Vale of Glamorgan continues to prosper and remains a great place to live, work and relax.

It also shows the areas where we are doing well and others where we need to work harder to achieve our targets.

Wales Programme for Improvement

In 2002, the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) introduced the Wales Programme for Improvement (WPI) to replace the Best Value regime, which sought to develop a distinctive Welsh agenda for improvement in public services based on the following principles:

  • Local government must be committed to continuous improvement;
  • Effective performance management;
  • Looking at the whole council (performance and capacity) as well as individual functions;
  • Targeted functions, which improve outcomes for the community;
  • Inspection and audit to support improvement.

You can read more about the Wales Programme for Improvement on the Welsh Assembly Government's Website.
