Twinning

Twinning and Friendship Agreements
Relationships with twin towns can have broad benefits, including
real economic, social and cultural dividends.
The Vale of Glamorgan has Twinning Agreements
with Rheinfelden in
Germany, Mouscron in
Belgium and Fecamp in
France.
We also have Friendship Agreements with
Jurbarkas in Lithuania, the Italian town of Neumarkt and the
Hungarian town of Putnok.
The Barry Declaration
In 2004 representatives of each of the Vale's twin and
friendship towns visited the Vale of Glamorgan from around the
continent and signed the 'Barry Declaration'.
This document expresses their commitment to holding a
large-scale twinning event every year in one of the towns. The
events will focus on culture and economic regeneration.
The Vale's 2004 event was a huge success, with our European
friends enjoying the Cowbridge Food and Wine Festival, amongst
other attractions, and hopefully going away as ambassadors for the
Vale.
We hope that our European friends view the Vale as an attractive
proposition, both for tourism and investment.

The annual twinning event will be hosted in Mouscron in 2006 and
in Rheinfelden in 2007.
