Youth Debate
Youth State of the Area Debate
"We rarely get the chance for youngsters to tell us what they
think is good about living in the Vale and where improvements can
be made, but their opinions are extremely important as they are the
area's future." – Leader of the Council.
The Youth State of the Area Debate gives young people the chance
to grill the Leader of the Council and other Cabinet members about
the issues that matter to them!
It is modelled on the Vale of Glamorgan Council's annual
State of
the Area Debates.
The group of youngsters - aged between 12 and 19 - is made up of
representatives from the Vale of Glamorgan's secondary schools as
well as youngsters involved with the Vale of Glamorgan Young
People's Partnership and other local youth organisations and
charities.
At the last debate in October 2005, the group gathered in the
Council chamber and the Leader and other Cabinet members answered
questions on a range of subjects from school transport and student
loans to leisure facilities and house prices. Leader of the
Council said the event had proved a great success, and a
worthwhile experience for both the young people and the Cabinet
members.
