The Chief Executive
The Chief Executive, John Maitland Evans, is in overall charge of
the Council's administration. He is the Head of the Paid Service
and is the Council's Principal Policy Advisor. For electoral
purposes he is the Council's Electoral Registration and Returning
Officer.
On a day-to-day basis, the Chief Executive leads the Corporate
Management Team and five strategic Directors. Corporate Management
Team meets weekly to discuss and progress the policy and strategic
direction of the Council.
A Chartered Town Planner, John Maitland Evans started his career
in local government in 1973. He has worked for the Vale and its
predecessor the Borough Council since 1978. On local government
re-organisation in 1996 he was made Director of Economic
Development, Planning, Transportation & Highways before being
appointed Chief Executive in 2000.
