Social Services Divisions
Adult Services
The principal aim of Adult Services is to ensure that
appropriate support and quality services are available for
vulnerable adults. The service supports older people, older people
with mental health problems, adults with physical and sensory
impairment, adults with a learning disability and adults with a
mental health problem.
We achieve this by supporting appropriate care in the community
and delivering services at a locality/neighbourhood level, in
partnership, to meet local need. We also aim to improve service
user experience and that of family and carers
Children and Young People
The principal aim of Children and Young People Services is to
ensure quality services reach those vulnerable children, young
people and their families assessed as being ‘in need’.
We achieve this by offering a range of services that, wherever
possible, support a child or young person to remain living within
their own family or in their local community.
Where this is not possible and it is necessary for children and
young people to be cared for away from their family, the emphasis
is on placing them in foster care and maintaining links with their
local communities.
Business Management and Innovation
The principal aim of the Business Management and Innovation
Division is to oversee business and strategic planning and to
provide a systematic approach to project management and innovation.
The division manages quality assurance and performance management
systems on behalf of the Social Services Directorate
We also manage the Safeguarding Unit for the Directorate, which
incorporates the Child Protection Unit and the Protection of
Vulnerable Adults unit. This provides single line management
responsibility for protection and ensures the effective transfer of
learning between the child and adult protection services.
The training function has the responsibility for providing
appropriate training for staff within the service and coordinates
workforce issues for the wider social care sector in the Vale of
Glamorgan.
