Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan
The Vale of Glamorgan Mayor for 2008-2009 is Cllr Audrey
Preston, who has a local government 'career' spanning a quarter of
a century.
Audrey has represented the St Brides Major ward on the Vale of
Glamorgan Council for the past nine years, having previously been a
member for 16 years of the Bridgend Borough Council. She is
actively involved with the local community of St Brides Major,
where she has lived for the past 33 years, and has served as
chairman of its community council on four occasions.
Gloucester-born Audrey, a farmer’s daughter who has lived in
Wales for 45 years, is married to Robert, the Mayor's Consort. They
have five children and 13 grandchildren who are scattered around
the world in places such as Alaska, New Zealand and Germany. The
rest of the family consists of a 'crazy spaniel,' ducks, chickens,
bantams and a pony.
Audrey is a retired antiques dealer and company director, whose
hobbies include walking the dog, collecting antiques, reading and
visiting stately homes and gardens.
Audrey's chosen charities are the British Heart Foundation, the
NSPCC and the Southerndown Surf Life Saving Club.
The deputy mayor is Cllr Emlyn Williams, who has been a
councillor for 33 years and who represents the Illtyd ward in
Barry. He served as Vale mayor in 2004/05.
