of the Vale of Glamorgan. The crest is surrounded by the
Welsh names of all 26 town and community councils in the
county. The top right tab shows the traditional eisteddfodic
symbol of the Nod Cyfrin of the Anwen; three golden sun rays along
with the year of the festival, 2012. It is made up of around
93,000 individual stitches and took six months to
create. The tapestry will hang in the Council Chamber of the

 The Vale of
Glamorgan Youth Service was host to four young people from Malawi,
Africa. The purpose of their visit was to research ways in which
they can develop a working partnership, share good practice and
exchange ideas. The visit was initiated in 2007 when a
group of ten young people from Wales travelled to the youth centre
situated in Blantyre, Malawi where they volunteered for a month on
the ‘Bridging the Digital Divide Project’, which was funded by the
British Council. The project encouraged sport development and
taught the community about computers and technology.
The group visited the
Town Hall in Barry where they met the Mayor and had a tour of the
County Library. Cllr Clifford said “This is an excellent
example of the Vale Youth Service sharing good practice and methods
that can be introduce to the youth centre and community in
Malawi.”

The Mayor attended a reception for
Geoff and Myra Phillips of Barry. Geoff and Myra have been
foster carers since 1964 and have cared for countless children over
those years. In their younger days they cared for children with
significant disabilities, they found this hard work but very
rewarding. Throughout their fostering career they have looked
after many babies and young children, who have gone on to be
adopted or returned to their families. They have also adopted two
children. In 2006 Her Majesty the Queen honoured Geoff and
Myra with MBEs for their services to fostering.
