Ward Details

The Court Ward represents the Bassett, Witchell &Treharne areas of Barry and is situated on Eastern end of the Town. Its population is about 4800 living in around 1900 homes with the main make up of residents being aged between 30 & 44. The ward has the highest number of unpaid carers in the county and has many socio-economic problems including high levels of health deprivation. An application is currently in the process of being submitted for Communities First Status with the Welsh Assembly for community and economic regeneration aid.

Biography

Councillor Richard Bertin, Member for the Court Ward, is a ‘backbench’ Member of the Vale of Glamorgan Council Labour Group. He first became a Councillor with Barry Town Council in 1999. He is very outspoken on issues and can often be found in articles or the letters page of the local press. He was elected to the Vale of Glamorgan Council in May 2004 where his interests are listed as Housing, Social Services and Transport. Born in 1972, Richard Bertin was educated at St. Richard Gwyn High School, Barry and Barry College Aeronautical Engineering Section. Currently he is employed by Cardiff City Transport and is a T&G Union representative. His hobbies include reading, walking and camping.
