In Wales there are five different types
of election. These are: elections for Community Councillors; Local
Councillors; National Assembly Members; Members of Parliament and
members of European Parliament.
There are also occasions where elections take
place outside these scheduled dates. In these instances, what are
known as 'by-elections' are held. By-elections can be called for a
number of reasons, e.g. :
- If an elected member resigns;
- If an elected member dies;
- If a councillor fails to attend
meetings.
