Postal Vote
Confirmation Notice
Electors who currently vote by post
whose personal identifiers (their signature and date of birth) are
five years old or more will receive a Postal Vote Confirmation
Notice in the post dated 31st January 2012.
In line with regulations, the Electoral
Registration Officer has a duty to collect a fresh signature if the
one held on our records is five years old or more. If you
receive a confirmation notice please complete and return this
immediately.
Failure or refusal to provide new
signature will result in your postal vote arrangement being
cancelled with effect 12th March 2012.
The notice will confirm which types of
election you are currently entitled to vote at, therefore please
note if you fail or refuse to respond you will no longer be able to
vote at these elections as an postal voter.
The form includes a request for confirmation
of your date of birth, however if this information is not provided
your refresh application is still valid.
Cancellation of your postal vote does not
prevent you from re-applying at a later date. If you wish to
re-apply at a later stage please contact the Electoral Registration
Office at the contact details provided below.
If you have a postal vote you CANNOT vote in
person at the polling station on polling day.
Please note the
deadline for receiving the completed form is 12th March
2012.
Legislation
The Representation of the People (England and
Wales) Regulations 2001 state that if an elector is a postal voter
and their personal identifier (their signature) is five years old
or more, a fresh signature is required.
Why do we need Personal
Identifiers?
There are two personal identifiers used for
postal voters:-
1.
The electors date of birth
2.
The electors signature
Personal Identifiers are used to protect
postal voters and to make postal voting more secure. The
collection of these personal identifiers helps deter misuse of the
entitlement to vote and to help ensure that postal votes included
at elections have been completed by the person to whom they are
issued.
Personal Indentifies are confidential and are
only used by the Electoral Registration Department – they do not
appear on the registers of electors or any documentation used for
an election.
Waiver
If you are no longer able to provide a
signature due to a disability or an inability to read or write then
you can request a waiver.
You can either indicate this on the form
included or contact the Electoral Registration Department at the
details below, and a waiver application will be issued.
If a waiver is granted, this will be on the
signature only and the electors date of birth will still
required.
Contact Details
If you have any queries or require any
assistance with the form please do not hesitate to contact the
