What is Council Tax?
Council Tax is a property tax with a personal element. The
property element is based on the property's valuation band. The
personal element takes into account the number of people aged over
18 living in a property, and allows for a discount to be granted in
some circumstances.

Council Tax Reduction Scheme 2013/2014
As part of the UK Government's Welfare
Reforms from April 2013 Council Tax Benefit (CTB) will be abolished
and replaced by the Council Tax
Reduction Scheme (CTRS) with local discretions.
The Welsh Government has reversed its decision
to cut support for Council Tax by 10 per cent. 11,000 low
income households in the Vale won't have to pay more towards
their Council Tax bill from April 2013.
The original Welsh Government decision made in
December would have left eliglible claimants having to pay at least
10 per cent towards their Council Tax, even if they pay
nothing this year 2012/13. The Welsh Government has now
found an extra £22 million which they are spending on the
scheme to keep the support at current levels for most people. Plans
to abolish the Second Adult Rebate remain in place.
