On the trail of public art in Sully
Published 08 February 2012
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has appointed acclaimed artists,
Maureen O'Kane and Carlos Pinatti, to develop an exciting new
public art trail in Sully.
The project is being funded by the developers
of Sully Hospital Development as part of their commitment to invest
in the local area under the council’s public art policy. The
appointments follow on from consultation with the local
community.
Although the precise location for the trail and the artwork has
yet to be decided, the trail – which will incorporate stories,
themes and images relating to Sully - will lead through the village
and along a section of the coastal path.
Maureen O'Kane is a professional, award winning mosaic artist
and teacher working nationally and internationally. She specialises
in producing original, site specific public artworks for interior
and exterior locations.
Carlos Pinatti was born in Argentina from Italian parents and
moved to Wales in 1992. He now works as a professional artist and
teacher of video, installation and sculpture.
Both artists will be running workshops to help them develop a
greater understanding of the area, as well as to research its
history.
There will be an open evening on Friday, 10 February at the
Jubilee Hall in Sully, between 6pm - 8pm. Please come along and
meet the artists who are keen to talk to local people and to
discuss their ideas for this project.
