As a new tourism brochure for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend is launched, people across South Wales are being urged to show some love to their nearest coastline this Valentine’s Day.

Couple walking along the Heritage Coastal pathFrom the traditional seaside resorts of Barry Island and Porthcawl, to the spectacular scenery of Ogmore and Southerndown, the counties are home to the closest beaches for millions of people.

And there has never been a better time to discover, or rediscover, this stretch of Wales’ coast. Thousands of pounds have been invested into the Wales Coast Path, due for completion this Spring, which is dramatically improving the access to our beaches and coastal walks in Wales thanks to an 870-mile-long trail right around the country.

Among the recent improvements is the new boardwalk at Rest Bay, Porthcawl, which was chosen as the spot to launch the new ‘Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Countryside’ brochure.

Cllr Anthony Ernest, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism said: “It is easy to take for granted how lucky we are to live so close to so much amazing coastline in South Wales. Make this the year to rediscover some fantastic beaches and views, and why not start by wrapping up and going for a romantic windswept walk at the seaside this Valentine’s Day?”

Cllr Anthony Ernest looking through the new tourism brochureCllr David Sage, Deputy Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council added: “This new tourism brochure forms part of our two councils’ joint campaign to attract people from all corners of the UK to visit the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Countryside, and I hope that local people will also enjoy reading it to get some ideas of some interesting places to go and things to do in the region too.”

In addition to containing a guide to all of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Countryside’s 19 different beaches and coves, the brochure also highlights some of the quirky events that take place locally and also dusts off some of the region’s fascinating historic tales and legends.
