Animals Attacked at Allotments

Police in Barry are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information regarding a barbaric act of animal cruelty which took place overnight on New Year’s Eve.

Sometime during the night of 31 December thieves entered Gibbonsdown allotments off Treharne Road, Barry and broke into several secure sheds, stealing a large amount of property.

The culprits also removed pet rabbits and ducks from secure pens within the allotments and set about causing horrific injuries to the animals, leaving them in severe pain and distress. Most of the animals have since been put to sleep by the RSPCA.

Neighbourhood Officer PC Mark Cummins of Barry police said: “Seven males are currently helping us with our enquiries. However, we are urging the public to come forward with any information that may help us with our investigations.

“This is a sickening act of cruelty and I have never come across anything on this scale in Barry during my time as a police officer.”

If you have any information that may help police with their investigations, please contact Barry Police on 101. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers completely anonymously on 0800 555 111.
