Animals Attacked at Allotments
Police in Barry are appealing for
witnesses to come forward with information regarding a barbaric act
of animal cruelty which took place overnight on New Year’s
Eve.
Sometime during the
night of 31 December thieves entered Gibbonsdown allotments off
Treharne Road, Barry and broke into several secure sheds, stealing
a large amount of property.
The culprits also
removed pet rabbits and ducks from secure pens within the
allotments and set about causing horrific injuries to the animals,
leaving them in severe pain and distress. Most of the animals have
since been put to sleep by the RSPCA.
Neighbourhood Officer
PC Mark Cummins of Barry police said: “Seven males are currently
helping us with our enquiries. However, we are urging the public to
come forward with any information that may help us with our
investigations.
“This is a sickening
act of cruelty and I have never come across anything on this scale
in Barry during my time as a police officer.”
