The Vale of Glamorgan Council has slashed thousands of
pounds from its energy bills by introducing
environmentally-friendly changes.
The council’s carbon management plan has resulted
in:
1. a 2.4% cut of carbon emissions between 2010/11 and
2009/10
2. an expected saving of £16,000 on street
lighting
3. an expected saving of £13,000 on lighting in Penarth
Leisure Centre
4. An action which means a reduction of around 174 tonnes
of carbon dioxide
Other changes include the installation of pool covers at
Penarth and Barry Leisure Centres.
The Council is also working with local schools to identify
opportunities for reducing energy use, for example through better
insulation and lighting.
The carbon management plan, highlighting progress and
planned activities over the next 12 months, was presented to the
council’s Cabinet.
The target is to build on the successes of the plan to
achieve goals such as a 20% reduction in carbon emissions by 2016.
