Views sought on proposals for Castleland Renewal
Area

Views are being sought on proposals to improve Upper
Holton Road in Barry.
The Vale
of Glamorgan Council is holding a series of drop-in sessions, to
discuss its plans for improving the road, which forms part of the
Castleland Renewal Area.
Three proposals aim to create a consistent look for the
design of shops and houses; offer grants or loans to help convert
disused shops into homes and improve the standard of rented housing
in the renewal area.
The programme of consultation aims to ensure the renewal
work is guided by the views of businesses and landlords. Letters
will also be sent to residents likely to be affected by the
proposals.
The drop-in-sessions are to be held in the Castleland
Renewal Area Office, 198 Holton Road on January 18 and 26 and
February 7, between 2pm and 6pm.
Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Councillor Gordon
Kemp, said: "The council is committed to doing everything possible
to create an environment in which the Castleland Renewal Area can
flourish.
"I want to ensure that all those with an interest in the
renewal area have an opportunity to feed their views to the
council, and for those views to be considered before the council
brings forward actions for formal adoption later in
2012."
The Castleland area of Barry was declared a renewal area
in April 2010.
Renewal projects such as the house facelift programme, the
opening of the renewal area office at 198 Holton Road, the
refurbishment of Bassett Park and Thompson Street public realm
improvements are now well underway.
Consultation began on January 4 and the deadline for
submitting comments is March 14.
The consultation documents can be viewed
online or at the following council offices:
- Civic offices, Holton Road
- Dock office, Barry Docks
- Renewal area office, 198 Holton Road
