Runner Rhys given Olympic torch honour

The LifeStyle Health and Fitness team at Penarth Leisure
Centre would like to congratulate one of their regular customers
Rhys Jenkins who has been chosen to carry the Olympic torch when
the flame makes its way through the Vale of Glamorgan on Saturday
26 May.
Rhys
was nominated by friends and family as a contender to carry the
torch due to his phenomenal fundraising achievements over the last
two years.
In that time, he has raised thousands of
pounds for charity thanks to a series of ultra-endurance races
including a 2,000 mile run across America, a 750 mile run around
Wales over four days and a non-stop 105 mile run from Aberystwyth
to Cardiff that he completed in just 27 hours!
Rhys will be carrying the torch for a much
shorter distance in May when he will join around 100 other people
who have been given the honour of being selected to run sections of
the torch relay stage between Cardiff and Swansea.
Nationally, around 37,000 people were
nominated to be torchbearers, with 28,000 people being chosen to
accompany the flame over 8,000 miles around the UK between 19 May
and 27 July.
