Ask us your questions about recycling on the Green Living Tour
2012

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s waste management and cleansing
team have begun their 11-day Green Living Tour with a visit to
Barry.
The tour encourages Vale residents to come out to meet the waste
management team, find out more about what they can do to make a
difference environmentally and it’s also a great chance to ask all
those niggling queries.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Visible Services Councillor Rob
Curtis, two members of the Colcot Residents’ Association and a
representative from the council’s housing team joined the recycling
crew on Friday 6 July in Colcot, as the Green Living Tour got
underway.
Councillor Curtis said: “While residents can telephone in, email
or tweet their queries at any time, it’s always good for people to
meet the team in the local community to find out more about our
service. On a lot of dates, as well as importantly learning more
about reducing, reusing and recycling waste, residents can quiz our
housing officers whilst there.
“As an extra incentive we’re offering one hundred of our latest
blue co-mingled recycling bags (usually £1 each), to the first 100
residents who visit our recycling trailer on each date and
challenge the team with their queries."
Typically residents ask about the type of items that may be
added to kitchen waste, garden waste and co-mingled collections,
what happens to their recycling once it is collected by council
crews and how to make sure everyone does their bit, reducing the
use of black bags.
Recycling officer Michelle Fitzpatrick said: "Reducing black bag
waste sent to landfill is something lots of residents are
passionate about. That said, we would love to meet people who don’t
currently recycle and help them begin doing so. If they are not
able to come to any of the dates on our tour, residents can always
contact us and we would be delighted to help them to get
started.
“We are keen to explain how easy greener living is, with just a
small amount of effort. After all, it is how we deal with the same
waste we all create, but using a different container to black
bags.”
