Vale Schools Celebrate their Healthy Schools Achievements
Children and young people from schools in the Vale of Glamorgan
joined together on March 15, 2012 to celebrate the progress made by
the Vale of Glamorgan Healthy Schools Scheme.
The
Vale of Glamorgan Healthy Schools Scheme has gone from strength to
strength since it was launched in 2000, with all schools
participating in the scheme.
Two pupils from each school were presented
with a plaque or certificate for their school's achievements over
the past year, by Jane Hutt AM, Minister for Finance and Leader of
the House.
And Barry Island and Gladstone Primary
Schools were presented with their Welsh Network of Healthy Schools
Schemes National Quality Award.
This prestigious award is only awarded to
schools that have completed at least nine years of sustained
activity in their local Healthy Schools Scheme, and have achieved
the highest standards in all seven health aspects of the WNHSS
National Quality Award.
Some of the many health issues that schools
tackle include food and fitness, emotional health and well-being,
personal development and relationships, environmental issues and
global citizenship, substance misuse, pupil participation, safety
and hygiene.
Pupils from six primary schools gave
demonstrations of various healthy activities to an audience of
school children, teachers and other professionals from health,
education and the local authority.
There was also the opportunity for
networking and viewing board displays from 20 organisations that
support the Vale of Glamorgan Healthy Schools Scheme.
Displays varied from physical activity,
healthy eating and the environment to road safety, Forest Schools
and the Family Information Service.
