Algal blooms on Vale beaches
24 May 2012
Algal blooms have been found within the vicinity of
Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown / Dunraven Bay.
The blooms are a natural occurrence and can
appear during the spring and summer months.
This particular bloom is not hazardous but can
look unsightly. It can appear as a creamy brown foam, before
turning darker brown and lumpy as it decays.
The algal blooms follow patterns of previous
years and are also being experienced on other beaches along the
Welsh coastline.
