Highway Winter Maintenance

The westbound lane of the Cowbridge bypass is now open. It was closed last night and this morning due to black ice.

Our Highways Team were out all night gritting and clearing snow on all main routes throughout the Vale. All main roads are clear, however motorists are advised to drive with care as ice is still affecting some roads.

Tips for driving in the winter weather. Latest gritting information.

Which roads are salted?

View our winter salting route (PDF)

We have over 200 salt bins sited at strategic locations around the Vale. This grit is for pavements and roads only. It is not for commercial use or for use on private property and action could be taken against anyone taking grit for their own use.  Find the location of these bins here.

Big Phil's brassed off

Big Phil's not a happy chappy

And why should he be? These freezing conditions and snow have created a huge new batch of potholes.

We are aware of the problem and, as soon as this current spate of snowy weather has cleared up, we'll be logging them and filling them as quickly as possible. Please bear with us.

Waste and Recycling

Refuse and recycling services continue to operate as normal and we expect the majority of today's scheduled collections to be undertaken. However, there may still remain the odd isolated road or street that is difficult for collection vehicles and staff to access due to residual snow or ice

If you live in one of these areas, please take your recycling back in and put it back out on your next scheduled collection day. If there remains refuse uncollected please let us know by contacting our call centre on 01446 700111 and we will arrange to collect it Visit our ecycling page.
