Wide range of adult learning courses in Llantwit Major
The wide range of
adult learning courses being offered in the Llantwit Major area
have been highlighted at a special event.
Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council's community learning
service at Llantwit Major School, the event celebrated the
enthusiasm and achievements of learners.
The range of success stories include:
• families (for example, mum, dad and child) learning Italian
together;
• sixth formers from Llantwit school showing that adult learning
is not just for the older person by joining a sports massage course
(young people in full -time education only pay £16 for a 10-week
course);
• the great progress of learners on computer courses, including
ECDL and ECDL (advanced), and
• the popularity of cookery courses with total beginners, who,
unable to cook toast at the outset, are now producing
restaurant-style dishes; new courses starting in January include
'Posh Nosh' and 'Indian cookery.'
The programme of events included music for folk dancing from
learners on the 'Traditional Music for Musicians' course and a
belly dancing performance from the 'Desert Divas,' comprising women
who had previously attended an adult learning course in Barry and
who have now formed their own group. It is hoped to start a similar
course in Llantwit.
Displays of work, including photography and calligraphy, by
people attending arts and crafts courses, and a game of bingo in
Welsh, were also of great interest.
Details of courses being offered throughout the rural Vale can
be obtained from the Cowbridge Community College on (01446)
