Five Mile Lane study work is extended
Further work on developing a possible improvement scheme for
Five Mile Lane between Barry and the A48 is being undertaken by the
Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Using a Welsh Assembly Government grant, the council is to
assess the environmental impact of possible alignment improvements
on the A4226 between Waycock Cross and Sycamore Cross.
With an area between Waycock Cross and the Waycock River
protected by ancient woodland status, the study is being extended
to land at least 500 metres beyond any possible alignments
currently being assessed.
Field studies are due to be undertaken between March and
September next year, and Paul Gay, operational manager (engineering
design), said: "The area in which the council will be working has
been widened to avoid disturbing these wooded areas.
"It must be stressed, however, that the presence of surveyors on
land which is remote from the present route must not be viewed as
an indication that any decisions have been made about new
alignments."
