Three gates locked overnight for weekend safety at Penarth Athletic Ground

In response to the safety concerns of local residents and users, three gates at Penarth Athletic Ground will be locked from dusk until 8:00am on Friday and Saturday nights for a trial period from Friday 7 December until the end of January 2008.

The exception to this will be the Lavernock Road main entrance gate, which will remain open. The locked gates will all be clearly signed.

The trial locking is in response to consultation by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and South Wales Police with local residents during a PACT meeting in Penarth at which concerns were raised over continual youth annoyance, vandalism and anti social behaviour in the area.

Following the trial period, the Vale Council and South Wales Police will discuss the benefits of locking the gates and other ways to make the park safer for its users.

If you have any queries, please call 02920 673000 and ask for the Vale Council's parks and grounds maintenance section.
