New sculpture and drawing exhibition
The latest free art exhibition at Barry Town Hall's exhibition
space, showcasing both sculpture and drawing work, comes to the
Vale of Glamorgan after a successful European tour.
The Sculpture Cymru exhibition, entitled 'Hiraeth', can be
enjoyed from now until Saturday 19 January 2008, with a short break
for Christmas in between. The name Hiraeth is an appropriate title
as it roughly translates in Welsh as 'longing for home'. The highly
acclaimed exhibition originated in Wales with financial assistance
from an Arts Council of Wales lottery grant, and has finally
returned to Wales after being exhibited in London and Germany.

Tracey Harding, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s arts development
officer, said: “We are delighted to welcome Hiraeth, which is now
the seventh exhibition at Barry Town Hall. The sculptors have
focused upon their feelings for objects, materials and memories of
special times and places. It really is inspiring art to be enjoyed
by all.”
Sculpture Cymru were first formed in 2000 as an exhibiting group
who were initially invited to exchange with ‘Sculpteurs Bretagne’,
sculptors from Brittany in France. Sculpture Cymru has since
exhibited with artists from Ireland, America and Argentina and has
undertaken the cast iron residency at the West Wales School of the
Arts in Carmarthen.
The free exhibition is open from 11am to 4pm on Tuesdays to
Saturdays until 19 January 2008. Please note that Barry Town Hall
Exhibition space will not be open from 23 December until 1 January
2008.
