Cowbridge pupils clean up school fields

A group of students from Cowbridge Comprehensive's lower school, who were concerned about litter and dog fouling on their playing fields, decided to take matters into their own hands this week.

Working alongside 'Scoop', the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s waste management mascot, the fields were litter-picked and any problems with dog fouling were passed on to the council’s enforcement team.

Mrs Evans, headteacher, said: “The children are keen to work alongside the council's enforcement team next term. Regular meetings to raise awareness of litter offences and recycling issues will be taking place throughout the year.”

Denny White, the Vale Council's senior enforcement officer, explained that 'Keep Wales Tidy Week' was being used to raise awareness of the mis-use of the school playing fields.

Anyone in the Vale who is caught littering or allowing their dog to foul will receive an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice of £75.
