Barry Mencap aim to "Raise the Roof"
A charity which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2008 is
launching a campaign to raise money for a new roof on their Barry
"home."
Established in 1958, Barry Mencap, which is one of the charities
being supported by Vale of Glamorgan Mayor Cllr Clive Williams
during his year of office, is hoping to raise £4,000 through its
"Raise the Roof" campaign.
With its "home" at Llanover Street, Barry Mencap provides
support and advice to people with learning disabilities and their
families and carers.
Members meet twice a week, and Cllr Williams and the Mayoress,
his wife, Gwyneth, recently attended one of the charity's regular
fish and chip evenings to hear about the plans.
During his year of office, Cllr Williams intends to host a
series of fundraising events including a charity coffee morning on
September 26, a charity dinner in October and a raffle at
Christmas
Cllr Williams said: "I feel it is important for us to give our
support to this local group. Their premises give them an outlet for
social contact and leisure time. They rely on the goodwill and
generosity of their voluntary helpers and the public for their
fundraising events.
"I hope that, by lending my support this year, we will help them
achieve their target of £4,000."

• The Mayor has also chosen two other charities to support this
year - East Vale Community Transport in Penarth and Headway in
Cardiff.
