Hockey taster for primary school pupils
A mini hockey festival has involved 90 girls and boys from five
Vale of Glamorgan primary schools.
Staged on the astroturf at the Colcot Sports Centre in Barry,
the festival is an annual fun event organised by the Dragon Sport
team at the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The mini version is aimed at attracting youngsters to the sport,
with teams using a half size pitch and players having smaller
sticks.
Youngsters from Palmerston and St Helen's (Barry), Llancarfan,
Pendoylan and Westbourne (Penarth) schools took part, and Pete
Hardwick, assistant Dragon Sport co-ordinator in the Vale, said:
"The tournament offered a taster for mixed under-11s, with a firm
focus on fun participation.
"This type of festival allows all children, rather than a select
few, the opportunity to play hockey for the school, and the
strongest squad goes on to play at a national Activate
competition.”
