Safer Vale support National Tackling Drugs Day
Work being undertaken to tackle and prevent drug abuse has been
highlighted by the Safer Vale Partnership in support of an annual
Home Office initiative.
To mark National Tackling Drugs Day (May 23), the Partnership,
along with partner agencies, offered advice and guidance relating
to substance misuse from its Crime Prevention Caravan at King
Square, Barry.
A number of specialised workers from within the substance misuse
field from various partner agencies also highlighted the support
available locally for drug and alcohol users, their families and
friends.
As part of the initiative, the Partnership undertook a drugs
awareness survey to gauge the perception of local people to drugs
and alcohol, and awareness of services providing help and support,
and results will be published later.
Literature and promotional items supplied by the Home Office,
Partnership and partner agencies were distributed, and Safer Vale
chairman Cllr John Thomas said: “The Partnership is committed to
tackling the problems of substance misuse and welcomes the support
of the community. This has been an excellent piece of work, with
all the relevant agencies on hand to offer help and advice to the
community.
"It was great to see the community taking the opportunity to
talk to the officers about their views on substance misuse."
Cllr Thomas extended his thanks to those supporting the event
including Ann Unitt (public health), Aud Fawcett and Mike Brown
(Inroads), Alex Mackay (Police community support officer), event
organiser Stacey Evans (Safer Vale Partnership) and Jo Lewis
(substance misuse co-ordinator).
