Penarth artist's works displayed in Civic Offices
Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader Cllr Margaret Alexander has
hosted a visit by a Penarth artist who has donated a number of his
works to the authority.
During his visit, Richard O'Connell, who is a member of the Vale
of Glamorgan Artists Group, viewed several of his works which are
now on display in the Civic Offices.
The works comprise two pencil crayon drawings of tall ship
Prince William at a Barry Waterfront Festival and a painting of the
seafront during the Penarth Pier centenary celebrations in
September, 1994.
Thanking Mr O'Connell for the works, Cllr Alexander said the
Penarth painting represented the "perfect portrayal of a resort
with an atmosphere all its own."
The council is a supporter of VoGA, and Cllr Alexander praised
the work of the group which was founded 10 years ago and comprises
painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, ceramacists, and
artists working in 3D and computer graphics.
Mr O'Connell has hosted a number of solo exhibitions at Vale and
Cardiff venues and taken part in events organised by VoGA in this
country and abroad.
On behalf of his brother, Hugh, Mr O'Connell also presented Cllr
Alexander with a volume of poems about Penarth.
