Singing the praises of life in the Vale

Singing the praises of life in the Vale

This year's national survey revealing the Vale of Glamorgan as one of the best places in Britain to bring up a family certainly struck a chord with Cowbridge resident Huw Price.

After spending two decades living in London, family man Huw, who was born and bred in the Vale, has returned to his roots and is quick to recognise the great appeal of the area.

During his years in the capital, Huw worked in the music recording industry alongside many famous names, including David Bowie and "Primal Scream," and is now helping a number of local bands. They include Cowbridge Comprehensive School-based "Solution Device," who are hoping to follow in the footsteps of "The Automatic’," comprising four former pupils whose first single, "Monster," and debut album "Not Accepted Anywhere" were massive hits.

In contrast to his years in London where he existed mainly on a diet of fast food, cigarettes, coffee and a sedentary lifestyle sitting at a mixing desk, Huw, whose aim is to change his lifestyle and get fitter, is now a regular visitor to the Cowbridge Leisure Centre.

Using the centre's LifeStyle Health & Fitness gym on average twice a week, Huw (green belt, 4th kyu) is also a member of Cowbridge Karate Jutsu Kai along with 10-year-old son Danny who is learning essential life skills such as discipline and self defence as well as participating in a shared fun activity.

Huw is delighted with the camaraderie at the centre and, with the help of supportive staff, has achieved a big lifestyle difference. Not only has he reduced his stress levels, he’s seen physical differences such as dropping a waist size and increasing a shirt size!

Huw said: “I feel energised in attending LifeStyle Health & Fitness and often train before I start my working day. This is invaluable time, without telephones ringing, to plan and think about my day ahead.”

Cowbridge centre manager Simon Jones said: “The centre has a host of activities to suit families or individuals and improve on current lifestyles. The team is excellent and we have a wide range of clubs for customers to choose from.”
