Driving forward improvements in Vale Social Services
The Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet has agreed a major plan
aimed at driving forward improvements within its Social Services
directorate.
The plan, covering actions which need to be taken between now
and the end of 2010, is designed to achieve "fundamental changes"
in the way in which the department operates.
One of the key objectives of the plan has been to address the
causes of recent spending difficulties, and Cabinet Member for
Social and Care Services Cllr Stuart Egan said: "This is an
ambitious and long-term plan which seeks to build on some of the
significant strengths of the service and marks the introduction of
a culture characterised by high performance and rigour.
The four key themes to the plan are leadership, budget,
performance and quality, and Cllr Egan added: "This will be a
dynamic and developing process but we must improve the performance
of all our services and deliver them within our financial
limitations.
"At the same time, we need to ensure that every contact and
intervention with our service users is of the standard that we
would wish and expect."
Cllr Egan said that it was recognised that the plan could not be
delivered in "isolation," and added: "We will work very closely
with services across the council and with partner organisations in
the statutory and voluntary sectors to drive forward the
improvements and achieve required outcomes.
"We are confident that positive change is already underway."
