Special vehicle for The Visible Crew

The Vale of Glamorgan’s Community Safety Partnership has launched a new initiative aiming to build on their work to improve cleanliness and community safety in the county.

Called "The Visible Crew," the initiative consists of a mobile team who will work throughout the Vale to remove graffiti, litter pick and carry out ground clearance work.

The team will be made up of representatives from the Youth Offending Service and Probation who will carry out the work as part of their community orders, and is seen as a positive way for them to pay back the community for the harm caused through their offending.

Team members also benefit from ‘on the job’ training, and certificates were presented to Kyle Braund at the launch.

The main focus of the launch was the unveiling of a new "Visible Crew" vehicle. The seven seater mini-bus is equipped to carry cleansing equipment and tools and has been customised to include running water and a wash basin.

The mini-bus was funded by the Vale Council and Welsh Assembly Government, and special thanks go to CEM Day Ltd, of Swansea, who sponsored the initiative by customising the vehicle.

Head of Visible Services Miles Punter said: “The aim of the Community Safety Partnership is to provide a clean and safe environment for Vale residents and, during 2006/07, more than 100 pieces of work were undertaken which greatly improved the cleanliness and appearance of our communities.

"The Visible Crew and the new vehicle will enable us to be even more proactive in responding to incidents such as littering and fly tipping. The brand is easily recognisable and will enable members of the community to see when work is being carried out in their areas. It also provides accredited training which will help those taking part when applying for future jobs.”

Youth Offending representative Mark Robertson said “The Youth Offending Service greatly values the partnership working with the council's Visible Services division as it provides a variety of opportunities for young people to undertake community payback and take part in improving the environment for local people and themselves."

Residents can help to keep the Vale clean by reporting incidents of litter, fly tipping, graffiti and dog fouling by contacting Visible Services on 029 2067 3000 or visible@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk. All calls will be dealt with confidentially.
