Community Partnership clean up Thompson Street
Thompson Street clean up
Members of the Vale of Glamorgan Community Safety Partnership
were joined by Cabinet Member for Visible Services Cllr Rob Curtis
to clear the land in Thompson Street.
The land, which had become overgrown with
weeds and was being used as a dumping ground for litter and fly
tipping, was a real eyesore and made the local area look
run-down.
Items removed during the clean up included gas
cylinders, mattresses, shopping trolleys, traffic cones, tyres,
rubble and 40 black bags of litter. Brambles and weeds were also
cut back and treated to prevent re-growth.
The work was carried out by members of the
partnership, including representatives from Probation, Youth
Offending, and the Vale Council’s Enforcement Team, who were helped
by Cllr Curtis.
Cllr Curtis, who was pleased to be involved
with the clean up, said: “The land on Thompson Street had become
overgrown and was suffering from the effects of anti-social
behaviour such as littering and fly tipping. The aim of the
partnership is to provide a clean and safe environment for Vale
residents and initiatives such as these greatly improve the
cleanliness and appearance of our communities and therefore help us
achieve this."
Vale Council Head of Visible Services Miles
Punter added: “Over the last few months, the partnership has been
working hard to help eradicate problem areas. Litter, fly tipping
and graffiti all contribute to the fear of crime within
communities, and the Community Safety Partnership is committed to
tackling these issues.”
Residents can help to keep the Vale clean by
reporting incidents of litter, fly tipping, graffiti and dog
fouling to Visible Services on 029 2067 3000 or
visible@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk. All calls will be dealt with
confidentially.
