Vale Council's £3m asset renewal programme
Nearly £3m has been earmarked for renewal works at Vale of
Glamorgan Council-owned buildings over the next 12 months.
The programme will be funded by a combination of council monies
and a School Buildings Improvement Grant of £1.5m from the Welsh
Assembly Government.
Work covering roof and window repairs, toilet refurbishment,
electrical rewiring and boiler replacement is proposed for a number
of primary schools across the area, Social Services buildings and
leisure and community centres.
The refurbishment works include the toilets at Jackson's Bay,
Barry, and Cosmeston Country Park.
Major schemes to be undertaken with the Assembly grant are the
second phase of cladding renewal works at St Athan Primary School,
roof renewal at Ysgol Gwaun y Nant/Oak Field, Barry, a classroom
extension at Gwaun y Nant and upgrading the Colcot Road junction
with Ysgol Bro Morgannwg.
Cabinet Member for Finance Cllr Neil Moore said: "This programme
of works has been drawn up following consultation with council
officers who have first hand knowledge of the properties and
through feedback from users of the facilities who have identified
areas of concern.
"The work to be undertaken will have a positive impact for many
sections of the community across the Vale."
