Excellent work of Vale Council's food safety team
The Vale of Glamorgan Council's food safety team achieved a 100
per cent record in terms of food hygiene and health and safety
inspections of "high risk" premises in 2006/07.
There are approximately 1,100 food premises within the Vale,
including around 77 classified as high risk, and cabinet member for
legal and public protection Cllr Val Hartrey said: "The team within
the council's environmental health division is continuing its
excellent work to ensure consistently high standards of food safety
and consumer protection."
In addition to their programmed inspections, officers visit, on
a risk basis, a range of other events such as shows and concerts,
and deal with just under 600 food related complaints annually.
Promotion work this year includes focusing on the Welsh Food
Hygiene Awards, improving awareness of primary school pupils to the
importance of good hand washing, contributing to the 'Health
Challenge Wales' initiative encouraging individuals and
organisations to work together to create a healthier nation and
promoting and facilitating food safety training for food
handlers.
