Identifying future housing needs in the Vale
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is undertaking further
consultation on a strategy that will identify and plan future
housing needs in the county over the next five years.
The council has already received very positive feedback from the
Welsh Assembly Government for its draft Local Housing Strategy
(2007-12) and is carrying out further work before its submission
for final approval.
The strategy will seek to address housing requirements, problems
and opportunities in the Vale, which have been highlighted in a
recent Housing Market Assessment and public consultation event. The
strategy covers all tenures and communities and emphasises the
importance of partnership working with, for example, housing
associations, housebuilders and private landlords.
The five aims of the strategy are:
• to develop good quality, affordable and appropriate
accommodation to meet identified housing needs
• to ensure existing housing is maintained and fit for purpose
and that neighbourhoods benefit from renewal schemes
• to eliminate homelessness and ensure the public have
accessible, high quality advice and information on housing
matters
• to develop appropriate housing and support solutions to meet
specific needs
• to work in partnership to make the Vale a safe and healthy
place for all
The strategy can be viewed here, or is available from Pam
Toms, Supporting People Co-ordinator, Public Sector Housing, Vale
of Glamorgan Council, 2 138 Holton Road, Barry CF63 4HD. Any
comments can be sent to the address above or emailed to SupportingPeople@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
Submissions must be received by 30 November.
