Kennels in annual appeal for festive treats
The kennels used by the Vale of Glamorgan Council dog warden
service are appealing for suitable toys and treats for 'residents'
not fortunate enough to be reclaimed or rehomed before the
Christmas holiday period.
The manager of Croft Kennels, Janet Long, said: “It would be
really nice for the dogs to have some new toys and treats for
Christmas. Appropriate toys are essential to a dog's well-being and
can alleviate some of the symptoms of kennel stress.”
Toys which can be filled with food can be particularly
entertaining and rewarding for the 'residents.' The dogs in the
kennels are usually fed a dry, complete food but some animals
prefer the more palatable tinned dog food, and donations of these
items are also gratefully received. Tinned fish, such as sardines,
is particularly enjoyed by dogs recuperating from operations or
illness.
For many dogs, the chances of being re-homed before Christmas
are diminishing, with people busy with their own festive
preparations.
Kennel assistant Richard Long said: “While there may not be a
warm fireside and a loving family for these dogs this Christmas, we
are asking readers to help us make the animals feel that they are
not forgotten."
To make any donations, please call into the kennels at Waun
Davey House, Heol Llan, Coity, Bridgend, or telephone 01656
862288.
Vale dog wardens are available to offer advice on suitable items
and may be able to arrange collections of bedding, food and toys.
They can be contacted on 01446 709105 (8.30am to 5pm Monday to
Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday).
The wardens are eager to stress that anyone considering adopting
a dog should, from the outset, give very careful consideration to a
'big commitment.'
The wardens are able to answer any queries or offer practical
advice on all aspects of responsible dog ownership.
The kennels are open between 11am and 6pm seven days a week, and
