Council invest £200,000 in community alarm system
In line with a major upgrade by BT, the Vale of Glamorgan
Council is investing more than £200,000 in its community alarm
service.
The service currently supports around 2,500 elderly or
vulnerable people to remain in their own homes, and the council's
cash will cover the free replacement of all affected alarm
units.
The BT upgrade is expected to be completed by 31 October, and
replacement units are being fitted this month by engineers from the
council's suppliers, Tunstall Telecom, and control centre
staff.
The units provide individuals - and their families -
with peace of mind in the knowledge that, in the case of an
emergency, immediate assistance can be summoned through a control
centre staffed 24 hours a day.
Cabinet member for housing and community safety Cllr Margaret
Wilkinson said: "Through this investment, we aim to ensure that our
residents will not suffer any disruption and that the new alarms
for this lifeline service will continue to work in the same
way."
