Jungle theme to County Library celebrations

Jungle fever was in the air at the County Library in Barry during Vale of Glamorgan Council organised activities to celebrate National Bookstart Day.

Bookstart is a national programme that works with locally-based organisations and libraries to promote books to young children. There are guidance materials for parents and carers.

Children's librarian Gillian Southby said: "The aim is to promote a lifelong love of books. Every child should enjoy and benefit from books from as early an age as possible."

She added: "We celebrated with lots of jungle themed stories, rhymes and song. Every child brought along a wild animal to sing along with."

Dressed in a stunning safari outfit, literacy outreach worker Maggie Sanders looked after a very naughty monkey who joined the clap tap and rhyme group for some jolly jungle japes.

Anyone requiring further information on the library's regular activities for under-fives can contact (01446) 422425.
