Orienteering
routes open at Porthkerry Country Park
New orienteering routes have been set up to help explore the
much-loved Porthkerry Country Park in Barry.
The orienteering course was designed by the South Wales
Orienteering Club in conjunction with the Vale of Glamorgan
Council's Ranger service, and was made possible thanks to funding
from a Sports Council for Wales Community Chest grant. There are
three routes around the park, with distances ranging from 1.5km up
to 4km.
Ranger Mel Stewart said: “The permanent orienteering course is
open for schools, groups and visitors to the park and will be
complemented by a new wildlife trail as well."
Nearly 50 members of the South Wales Orienteering Club tested
the routes out on Sunday, 13 April. Armed with new maps, and
bundles of enthusiasm, they raced around to discover the hidden
delights of Porthkerry.
