New 'deal' to boost profile of Dyffryn Gardens

Dyffryn GardensThe Vale of Glamorgan Council has agreed a new link with one of the country's major retailers in a bid to raise the profile of one of its main tourist attractions.

Dyffryn Gardens and Aboretum will join the Tesco Club Card Deals scheme through which shoppers across the country can obtain discounted entry to more than 180 national "attractions." These include Blenheim Place, Cadbury World, the Eden Project, Hampton Court, Wales Millennium Centre, National Botanic Garden of Wales and Legoland.

Cabinet member for tourism and leisure Cllr Anthony Ernest said: "This is viewed as an excellent opportunity to raise the regional and national profile of Dyffryn and boost visitor numbers at a key time in its development."

Cabinet member for economic development and regeneration Cllr Rhodri Traherne said it would be the first occasion Dyffryn had been involved in a scheme with a retail company such as Tesco.

The 55-acre, grade 1 registered Edwardian garden, with more than 30 distinctively themed areas, is currently being restored to its former glory with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The latest restoration programme is the walled gardens.

Education and visitor facilities have been dramatically transformed, and a new education centre accommodates the equivalent of two classes seating up to 70 people.

In addition, the tea rooms, gift shop, administration offices and meeting rooms have been transformed and the garden is serviced by a much larger car park.

Admission fees are £6 for adults, £4 concessions, £2 children and £15 for a family pass (two adults and up to four children) through until October. For more information visit our Dyffryn pages.
