Start on recreational facilities at Ystradowen
Work has started on long-awaited recreational facilities in
Ystradowen.
The new park, which comprises a multi court,
seating and events area and a footpath around the meadow and
wetland area, is being developed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council
at the rear of the Ystradowen Sports and Community Association
Hall. Access to the site is through the White Lion public house car
park.
The council's parks and grounds maintenance
division has worked closely with the association over a number of
years, and the park was designed by the authority's landscape
design service.
Cabinet member for visible and building
services Cllr Geoffrey Cox said: “This is great news for the
community of Ystradowen. It is good to see the contractors on site
and progress being made. The new multi court will make a big
difference as it will be in the heart of the community and will
save youngsters having to go elsewhere either by travelling on
buses or waiting for their parents to take them."
Operational manager (parks and grounds
maintenance) Phil Beaman said: "The open space was designed in
close consultation with the community and my thanks go to members
of the Ystradowen Sports and Community Association who have been
very supportive throughout the design process.
"Layout and construction is expected to be
finished at the end of August, with trees and shrubs being provided
in the autumn planting season."
