Trio's sponsored cycle ride for Ty Hafan
Three young men attached to the Vale of Glamorgan Youth
Offending Service will be pedalling for pounds this week.
Accompanied by staff members Phil Clay and
Gareth Downes, the young men will undertake a 100-mile sponsored
bike ride along the Taff Trail and hope to raise around £1,000 for
Ty Hafan, the Welsh children's hospice at Hayes Road, Sully.
The group, who will be sponsored by family,
friends and supporters within the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which
runs the YOS, will set out from Cardiff today (Thursday). And,
after an overnight stay near Storey Arms in the Brecon Beacons,
they will, hopefully, return along the same route on Friday to
complete their challenge.
Main sponsors of the youngsters, who are
attached to the service's Intensive Supervision and Surveillance
Project, are Barry-based builders Andrew Weeks and Son.
Phil said: "The boys are really looking
forward to the adventure. This is a physically demanding challenge
and we have been absolutely delighted with their commitment in
training.
"They have worked extremely hard in the run up
to the event and are delighted with the sponsorship they have been
offered. They are ready to go for it as a team and raise a great
sum of money for this very worthy cause.
"I'm sure that, on a personal level, they will
learn a great deal from what, is for them, a new experience, with
each, at different times, having to risk assess a section of the
journey, lead the group and discuss potential hazards."
