Dancing to disney at Bro MorgannwgBro Morgannwg's evening of dance to Disney

In front of capacity audience, pupils at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg (Barry) staged a colourful and entertaining evening of dance to Disney music.

The event at the Welsh medium comprehensive school was part of the ‘5x60’ project which, running across Wales, aims to increase the level of physical activity undertaken by secondary aged pupils.

The aim of the Welsh Assembly Government by 2020 is five hours of activity a week for youngsters. And the young dancers at Bro Morgannwg have certainly clocked up their hours as part of the 5x60 initiative!

Dancing to disney at Bro MorgannwgThe show was a massive success with parents, pupils and staff, and comprised dances from ‘The Lion King’ to ‘Mulan’ and songs from Disney’s latest box office hit, ‘High School Musical.'

Pupils worked exceptionally hard for months in preparing a range of dances. Year 11 pupils Savannah Taylor, Kirsty McGill and Gabby Bennett ably led the group. Hip hop dance moves were also included thanks to the guidance of community dance coach Sophie Squires.

Bro Morgannwg's 5x60 officer Elin Leyshon, who undertakes her work as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council's sports development team, said: “The girls worked extremely hard and were very focused. They did an excellent job and the school has wholeheartedly embraced their enthusiasm of the scheme.”
