Taster session at Barry Central Bowls Club
Offering both adults and youngsters an opportunity to try the
sport, Barry Central Bowls Club is hosting a free taster
session.
Organised with support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council sports
development team, the session will be held on Sunday, 17 August,
from 2pm at the club green at Gladstone Gardens.
The club is keen to attract some new faces and the session, led
by qualified coaches, is open to anyone over the age of nine. There
is no cost for children and a charge of just £2 for adults (also
covering the cost of refreshments). The club is particularly keen
to attract families as they offer opportunities to children and
parents.
Successful recipients of a Community Chest grant to help develop
junior opportunities, the club has purchased new equipment, and
organised specialist coaching courses.
Vale council sports and play development manager Karen Davies
said: “This is a great idea by the club to try and raise their
profile and attract new members. It is an excellent way for new
people to see the club, meet existing members and try the
sport."
As part of their development work, the club has links with the
nearby High Street Primary School to provide pupils with the
opportunity to try the sport through a five-week introductory
programme.
