Dragon Sport certificates for Llantwit Major sixth-formers
Twelve sixth-formers from Llantwit Major Comprehensive School
finished the school year with a sporting flourish after showing
strong sports coaching and leadership skills in order to achieve
their Dragon Sport 'organisers' certificates.
The pupils began the course, run in conjunction with the Dragon
Sport team at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, in Autumn 2007. It has
led to them putting what they have learnt into practice for a
minimum of eight hours in local primary schools.
Dragon Sport
is a Sports Council for Wales initiative funded by the National
Lottery, designed to offer 7-11 year olds fun and enjoyable
sporting opportunities.
It focuses on eight key sports – rugby, football, netball,
hockey, cricket, golf, athletics and tennis. The flagship scheme
also aims to recruit and train volunteers who wish to assist, set
up or run clubs.
The sixth-formers from Llantwit Major Comprehensive School
finished their course by demonstrating their skills working with
younger pupils at a Year Five Primary Schools sports day, held
annually to prepare children from local primary schools for their
Year Six transition year before they move up to Llantwit Major
Comprehensive School.
